#sparkchamber 030226 — Monika Meda
“The best things already exist — just look around.” So says today’s #sparkchamber visitor, the architect, multidisciplinary craftsman, and artist Monika Meda. With a background in architecture, and after many years working in that profession, Monika began to feel that she was missing the “tangible part of creative process” — the actual, hands-on creation. “I do have strong family roots in craft, and will always cherish memories of my grandfather-carpenter.”
Inspired by traditional crafts and raw materials, she turned her focus to “exploring wood,” hand-crafting decorative and functional pieces from reclaimed wood. Her online shop offers [mostly] one-of-a-kind hand-carved wooden bowls and vases, serving and display plates, and minimalistic floating shelves, as well as vases formed from vintage glass and custom powder-coated steel pedestals. Sustainability and slow-living fuel her craftsmanship, aspiring “to bring balance and enrichment to everyday life.”
1.] Where do ideas come from?
From inside of me
2.] What is the itch you are scratching?
The miracles that are happening once I am true to myself and I allow myself to be authentic
3.] Early bird or night owl? Tortoise or hare?
I am usually very early in the bed, doing breathwork, journaling, and cleansing the space inside of me to allow ideas come on the surface. After that I have many new visualizations-connections of which I am making notes/sketches. I usually wake up early morning and put my hands on it.
4.] How do you know when you are done?
I think that Artpiece is never done
