Melody, lyric, harmony, progression, performance, connection — music is in the air in #sparkchamber today as we welcome lover of life, songwriter, poet, communicator, music promoter, traveler, and pioneer of positive touch, Katie Whitehouse.

Katie believes in the power of music and great songwriting, and is driven to make a difference. She founded fromthewhitehouse, an innovative, award-winning music management and promotion agency, to make the world a better place. Representing a select group of some of the finest singer-songwriters and musicians in the UK, fromthewhitehouse creates, curates, and promotes live music events, songwriting retreats, and workshops, as well as offering strategy and advice on branding, marketing, and social media. In the words of folk Legend Geoff Lakeman, “Katie is a one-woman whirlwind who brings her skills as a therapist and marketer to her main passions — music and poetry. A keen gig promoter, she also manages some of the UK’s top songwriting/acoustic acts who all exude integrity, honesty and soaring musicality.”

Katie has a deep commitment to the artists she works with — as musicians and as people. Some on the current roster are singer, songwriter, and storyteller Reg Meuross, songwriter, performer, and music composition for film + tv, Charlie Dore, the exquisite folk duo Harbottle & Jonas, and joyful, lilting, light-filled folk twosome Suthering.

UK folks are in luck as live shows have resumed!!! There is nothing like the energy shift that comes from being in the room, feeling the sound and emotion as it happens.

1.] Where do ideas come from?

Never forced. They come from behind doors, from shining a light into dark corners, from unexpected turns in a conversation, from watching the birds and from lighting a candle, closing your eyes and just listening. From out of thin air when you look the other way for a moment.

2.] What is the itch you are scratching?

My attention is more on the itch I’m not scratching. The one that’s slightly out of reach and that holds all the possibility I’ve ever dreamed of and that I continue to distract myself from daily.

3.] Early bird or night owl? Tortoise or hare?

The quiet of the night has always been my most creative time, and now I also love rising before the sun, so I can walk into the day and embrace it while it still feels there is some time and space to breathe and reflect before it fully unfolds. Time and space is what I need to listen before the glow of thoughts races ahead and hops around, hare-like, holding many threads and waving others’ flags.

4.] How do you know when you are done?

When the urgency has gone. When there is a certain flow to the reading back, and the pen says “put me down now, and breathe.”
