Today, #sparkchamber goes behind the screen, welcoming BaldGuy Content Producer Bruce Montgomery. Bruce is a film school guy — BA Communications and Theatre Arts with emphasis in broadcast and film from the University of Iowa — turned local TV director — KCRG, KAUZ-TV — who then hopped agency side and produced for 30 years — notably at CMF&Z in Cedar Rapids, then Barkley in Kansas City, and at his own shop BaldGuy Productions. Follow the arc on his LinkedIn profile.

1.] Where do ideas come from?

Ideas come from a person’s experiences in life, whether that might be personal experience or observational experience or from reading a book, listening to music, etc.

2.] What is the itch you are scratching?

For me it’s always about really trying to be real. To be relatable and giving back to the audience. If it sounds fake or looks fake or the idea is bogus, the audience will feel it.

3.] Early bird or night owl, tortoise or hare?

I work sporadically when I’m not busy and focused like a laser when I am. Sometimes it takes that intense concentration to solve something. A lot of times I just don’t have an idea when a question is posed. But after 5 minutes, often not even thinking about the subject, ideas come.

4.] How do you know when you are done?

I’m never done. On a project, I just want to tweak, tweak, tweak.
